La canzone Steve Bloomer’s Watchin’ è l’inno ufficiale della società calcistica del Derby County Football Club ed è anche un bel motivo musicale.

E’ inno ufficiale dal giorno di Santo Stefano del 1997, data in cui, per la prima volta, prima della partita di campionato contro il Newcastle United fu suonata….ed i Rams, soprannome dei Derby County, in quella occasione vinsero la partita 1-0!

E’ particolare la storia di questo brano: 2 sostenitori del Derby, Tewson Mark Miller e Martyn, avevano sentito una canzone intitolata “Up the Cazaly“, che è stata composta da Mike Brady nel 1979 per un programma televisivo australiano di rugby. Il busto di Steve Bloomer a Pride Park Stadium ha dato l’idea per il testo ed un amico musicista, arrangiò la melodia.

La registrazione della canzone presso Radio Derby vide coinvolti l’addetto stampa della società, l’attore Robert Lindsay, Lionel Pickering e Jim Smith (che erano rispettivamente proprietario e manager del club) e molti dei giocatori della squadra, il capitano Robin van der Laan, Willems Ron e Robert Kozluk.

Da quella prima volta, in cui ci fu un successo esagerato, la canzone viene sempre trasmessa prima delle partite casalinghe e cantata dai tifosi in trasferta:

Nel 2007, “Steve Bloomer’s Watchin’” ha celebrato il suo 10 ° anniversario come canzone ufficiale del club. Questo inno ha contribuito a portare Steve Bloomer alla memoria dei contemporanei tifosi del Derby.

Il giocatore era un genio in campo con risultati senza precedenti sia per il Derby che l’Inghilterra (28 gol in 23 partite).
